Lasik and Custom Lasik
Lasik stands for Laser Assisted in-situ Keratomileusis. It is the most common refractive procedure performed to date. Lasik and custom Lasik is effective for most people who are nearsighted, farsighted or have astigmatism. Lasik surgeon, Dr. Shanbom uses the Excimer laser to reshape the cornea to conform to your glasses or contact lens prescription. The technologically advanced Excimer laser has added a tremendous amount of precision, control and safety to the surgical correction of vision error. Both Lasik and Custom Lasik are safe and effective procedures, with a quick recovery time. Most Lasik patients resume their normal activities the very next day. "I wanted to take this opportunity to tell you how wonderful it has been since I've had Lasik surgery. I had my surgery done five years ago, and I could drive to work the next day! There was no pain whatsoever, and the only discomfort was alleviated with the eye drops. After having to suffer through dirty contacts and ill-fitting glasses, putting in eye drops was nothing! Every chance I get, I tell people about my surgery and how pleased I am with the results. Thanks again and keep up the good work." - Kevin
Custom Lasik: The Procedure
- Prior to the procedure a detailed eye exam is performed.
- On the day of the custom Lasik procedure you will be offered a sedative and the eyes will be anesthetized with eye drops.
- You will be reclined and placed under the Excimer laser.
- A corneal flap is created with an automated keratome.
- The Excimer laser is applied to reshape the cornea.
- The corneal flap is then replaced.
- The entire Lasik procedure takes 15-20 minutes for both eyes.
"The consulation, surgery and follow-up appointments were handled perfectly. My sight is 20/15 in both eyes. I can drive a car and play golf without glasses for the first time in years. Dr. Shanbom and his staff are the best!" - Mike
