CK - The Laser Eye Surgeon Procedure

Serving the Berkley, Detroit, Birmingham and Southfield, Michigan areas.

"I wanted to express how happy I am with the results of my CK. Just a few hours after the procedure was completed, I was able to read the newspaper without needing my reading glasses. Even though I was told it would take weeks to realize the optimum benefit from CK surgery, I have been able to significantly reduce my dependence on my reading glasses both at home and in the office." - Loretta

Before CK

The CK patient is given a complete eye exam including a cornea mapping and measurement of cornea thickness.

During CK

After applying drops to numb the eye to ensure the CK procedure is painless, the laser eye surgeon imprints a treatment pattern on the cornea using rinse-away dye. The pattern guides the laser eye surgeon's treatment. Once the cornea is marked, the laser eye surgeon uses a small probe to apply the energy in a circular pattern to reshape the cornea. The most common sensation that CK patients experience is a feeling of pressure on the eye.

After CK

The laser eye surgeon will apply antibiotic and antiinflammatory drops that the CK patient will continue using for three days. As with other vision procedures, there may be some mild discomfort and light sensitivity for a few days, and many CK patients experience a foreign-object sensation or a slight "scratchiness" in the eye. This usually subsides within 24 hours after the CK procedure.

"Since my CK Surgery, I can read, draw, paint, dial the phone, write, correct papers, mark scan sheets, apply make-up, read the dashboard, read the cash machine and read price tags. The entire staff treated me as though I was a distinguished guest! Additionally I was very impressed with the immaculate surgical facility."

Blended Vision

About 65% of CK patients will have good distance vision prior to surgery and only require treatment to one eye. This allows both eyes to work together at both distance and near giving blended vision. Although this may sound unusual to only treat one eye, CK patients readily adapt to this treatment. The remaining 35% will need both eyes corrected to treated their hyperopia. These CK patients may also be treated with blended vision.
